Hi All,

I'm sure everyone knows, but just a reminder we have practice and then a game tomorrow. It's 1pm at Hollis Nichols. Please plan on meeting at the softball field for the practice portion.

Since this is the last meeting on our schedule, I just want to say it's been great meeting all the kids and watching them play/develop over the last 5 weeks. My hope is that each and every one had fun along the way. And that they learned at least one thing they will take with them and use down the road.

Lastly, I did inquire about the hats. As far as I know the league is trying to get a status from the company that is making them. If, after tomorrow, I hear anything further then I will get a message out to you all.

Thank you,

Vinnie

Hi All,

You all should have received an update to tomorrows schedule. We will start at 12pm at Hollis Nichols. See you then!

Hi All,

We had a good day this past Saturday. The kids are all doing really well with the drills/games we have been doing. And as a bonus we got our team jerseys! I think they look great. Hopefully the kids had fun and are excited they now have a team jersey.

So, looking ahead we are scheduled to practice/scrimmage this Saturday from 1-3pm at Hollis Nichols. However, I just heard from the Blue Team's coach that he has a conflict late afternoon and shifting the time to 12-2pm would help him. Before we do that I want to find out from you all if that is doable. Can everyone let me know their availability for this Saturday from 12-2pm at Hollis Nichols please?

Thank you,

Vinnie

Hi All,

I meant to send this out sooner, sorry for the late in the week message here. So, I thought our first day last Sunday went well. I was particularly impressed with the hitting. I think most kids tend to struggle at first trying to hit off the pitching machine. But it seemed as though many were making good contact. Nice job players!

Tomorrow is day 2 of Rookie Clinic. Similar to last week, we will practice skills for the first half and then scrimmage the Blue Team (Knights) the second half. We are scheduled to start 12:30pm at the Hollis Ball Fields at 40 Depot Rd. One of the teams will practice at Hollis Nichols field, and the other will practice at the softball field. I'll bring my checkered flag, so look for that. We will most likely scrimmage at the Hollis Nichols Field. So if we practice at the softball field, plan on having to move to Nichols Field for the scrimmage. The fields are next to each other, so it's just a quick walk to the other side.

In terms of how the scrimmage is played, we may change things up a bit to go along with standard rules for the Rookies level. For example, we'll have strikeouts, switch innings after 3 outs or 4 runs. I need to discuss this with the Knights coach first though.

Lastly, I did have a request from one player last week to be a catcher. I am going to bring a set of gear to use. If anyone is not comfortable having their child(ren) play catcher please let me know. I realize folks might have concerns about using shared equipment(like the helmet) and just for the general safety of their child at that position. So I just want to put this out there ahead of time. I think if I have a concern about a players ability to catch a ball in general, then I would opt to not have them be catcher. I don't want to disappoint anyone, but I don't want anyone getting hurt either.

Let me know of any questions.

Thank you,

Vinnie

Hi All,

It looks like we are a go for this Sunday. Again, we will be meeting at the fields behind the high school in Hollis at 10am. There are two ball fields at the top of the little hill. So that everyone can identify me and which field to go to, I am going to hang, or have with me, a black and white checkered flag. Hoping this will make it easier for you all.

Also, initially we were not going to have jerseys for the players and coaches. But earlier this week one of our parents offered her time to make jerseys not only for our team, but for the other Rookie team as well!

Ana C., thank you for doing this!

The other good news is that the league has agreed to cover the cost of the jerseys. Therefore, there is no additional fee to you all. So, what I need to know from each of you is what size jersey you want for your child(ren). Below is the size chart. Please send me a reply as soon as possible.

Youth Xtra-Small (2/4)

YS - Youth Small (6/8)

YM - Youth Medium (10/12)

YL - Youth Large (14/16)

I do not expect these will be ready for this Sunday. So please plan to have your child wear a jersey or athletic shirt they will be comfortable in. If they have one that has black, that'll work. But please do not go out and buy a shirt. Use something you already have.

If there are any questions please let me know.

Thank you,

Vinnie

Hi All,

Last week I sent a message that our first meeting would be on 9/18. However, I just found out late yesterday that we have access to use the fields at the high school in Hollis. The fields are behind the school, up on the little hill area. We went ahead and booked a practice/game for this Sunday the 12th at 10am. Please let me know if you are able to make it. That way I can get an idea of a headcount and determine if it is worthwhile.

Thank you,

Hi All,

Welcome to the Fall 2021 Rookies Black Team. My name is Vinnie, I'll be the head coach alongside with assistant coach Chris. I'm looking forward to getting out on the baseball field and having some fun this fall. In Rookie Clinic we'll be looking to build on those t-ball skills and introduce the kids to the next level of play. We will meet on the fields at Hollis Nichols on Saturday afternoons, starting September 18th at 12:30. Plan on being there about 1-2 hours. For the the first half we will practice skills and drills, and the second half we will scrimmage the other Rookie team, the Blue team.

In terms of equipment and such, here it what you need to know. Each player needs to bring their own glove. We'll also be using batting helmets and bats. If you have your own, please bring them. The league will provide our team with a couple of each. Anyone is free to use them, but please understand they are shared equipment. Other things like batting gloves are optional, baseball pants are good because the kids do slide and dive, cleats are not mandatory but they do provide extra traction. For Rookie Clinic we do not get a team jersey, only a hat. So the kids can wear their favorite shirt to play baseball in. Once I get the hats from the league I will distribute those to everyone.

That's about all for now. If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me. Otherwise, I will be in touch with any updates or changes as we get closer to our first meeting on the 18th. Again, looking forward to meeting everyone and playing some baseball!

Thank you,

Vinnie
